You buy a fixed amount on a fixed schedule, in red months and green months, and you stop trying to time the market.

Then a natural question shows up: if you are buying on a schedule anyway, does the specific day matter? The 1st or the 15th? Monday or Friday? Morning or night?

The short answer is yes, a little. The full answer is that it matters far less than three other things. This guide covers the data first, then the things that matter more.

What the research says

The most direct work on this question comes from whendca.com, a free tool that tests DCA timing against historical Bitcoin prices. Their latest numbers: for monthly buyers, the 19th beats the 22nd by 1.83%. For weekly buyers, Saturday beats Monday by 1.01%. For daily buyers, 07:00 UTC beats 20:00 UTC by 0.43%.

We ran our own version on 11 months of daily closes from Kraken (October 2025 to August 2026), simulating $100 buys on every possible schedule. Our results: the 18th beat the 2nd by 2.28% on monthly buys, Thursday beat Monday by 1.09% on weekly buys, and 01:00 UTC beat 17:00 UTC by 0.44% on hourly buys.

Two independent analyses, two different sets of “best” days. That disagreement is the most important finding in this guide. Timing edges are real, they run 1 to 2%, and they move with the measurement window. There is no permanently best day to buy Bitcoin.

Why the edge stays small

Bitcoin’s daily price swings routinely exceed the 1 to 2% timing edge. You are trying to harvest a small statistical tilt inside a very noisy asset. Some months the “best” day wins by a lot, some months it loses. Over a decade of stacking, the tilt is real but modest.

What matters more than timing

Fees and spread. A 1.5% purchase fee wipes out the entire timing edge before you start. Compare the all-in cost of your on-ramp, including withdrawal fees, before you optimize the calendar.

Sticking to the schedule. The DCA investors who underperform are the ones who pause buys when the price drops, which is exactly when DCA does its best work. Automate the buy so your emotions cannot cancel it.

Taking custody. This is the one that compounds. Bitcoin left on an exchange is an IOU with counterparty risk. Every buy should end with coins moving to a wallet you control, ideally a hardware wallet or a well backed up mobile wallet. A 2% timing edge means nothing next to the risk of leaving a growing stack on someone else’s server.

How to set up DCA the right way

Pick a fixed amount you can sustain for years, not months.

Pick a schedule you will never cancel. Weekly is slightly smoother than monthly. Daily adds little once per-transaction fees are counted.

Choose an on-ramp with low recurring fees and cheap withdrawals.

Automate the withdrawal to your own wallet after every buy.

Stop checking the price. The schedule is the strategy.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

Does it make sense to switch my DCA day to the 18th?

If the switch is free and does not break your automation, there is no harm in it. Do not pay fees, lose automation, or stress about it. The expected gain is around 1 to 2%.

Is daily DCA better than monthly DCA?

Slightly smoother entries, but each buy can carry a fixed fee or spread cost. For most people, weekly or monthly wins on simplicity.

Does DCA timing research apply to other cryptocurrencies?

This analysis is Bitcoin only. Smaller coins have thinner liquidity and wilder swings, which makes timing both more impactful and less predictable. We do not recommend the same approach there.

The bottom line

Buy on a schedule, keep fees low, automate everything, and take custody of every coin. If you want the statistically favored setup, the data points to mid-month days, Thursdays, and early UTC hours. Then forget about the calendar. The schedule is the strategy.

Dollar cost averaging is the simplest Bitcoin strategy that works.
